Jaundice is also known as icterus. It is a term used to describe the yellowing of the skin and the white part of eye. But the color of the inside of mouth or nose can turn yellow too. 1 in every 3 newborn babies tend to have jaundice but adults can have it too. It is caused by an excess of bilirubin in the blood. Jaundice can be caused by a number of problems such as inflamed liver and an obstructed bile duct.

  • Sunlight

It is advised to put the baby under sunlight. Note the early morning sunlight or late afternoon sunlight is recommended as the intensity of sunshine is less at those times. The sunlight helps to break down the bilirubin, which makes it a lot easier to get out of the body.

  • Feeding

Try to feed the baby as much as possible. Even if it is formula milk that is absolutely fine. This will help get rid of the excess bilirubin from her body. And the color of the stools will also change to brownish-yellow. So this will tell you that the baby is slowly clearing excess bilirubin from it’s body.

Just like newborns,  jaundice is a harmless disease and clears away in it’s own sweet time. But at the same time, you should do home treatments to get rid of it quickly.

Home Remedies To Cure Jaundice

Here a simple home remedies to get rid of jaundice at home.

1. Basil Leaves

Basil leaves for jaundiceBasil leaves regulates the bile function and promotes the normal functioning of liver. Just take 9-10 basil leaves and crush them. Then add these crushed basil leaves in 200 ml of water. You should drink this at least two times a day to get rid of jaundice quickly.




2. Pomegranate

Pomegranate for jaundiceOne of the best remedies to cure jaundice is pomegranate. You should eat ripped pomegranate or drinking it has the same effect as well. So just include pomegranate in your daily diet. This will cure your jaundice in a few days.



3. Bitter Gourd 

Bitter gourd for jaundiceBitter gourd is very good in treating jaundice. It not only cures jaundice but also fix the improper functioning of liver very quickly. So just take one bitter gourd and prepare the juice from it. Take 2 tablespoons of this juice at least twice a day. This will cure jaundice and give the yellowness of eyes will also fade away.



4. Coriander seeds

Simmer it for few minutes. And let it cool. Once it’s cooled down, drink half a cup of this coriander water to get better. This drink also reduces yellowness of water.




5. Gooseberry

Gooseberry for jaundiceGooseberry juice is one of the safest and healthiest way to cure jaundice. So take bunch of gooseberries, then wash and dry them. Put them in a bowl and set aside. Now take a pressure cooker and add two cups of water. Then place the bowl with gooseberry inside the cooker and put on medium heat. Then after one whistle, take the gooseberry bowl out of the cooker and allow it to cool down. Now remove the seeds and break it into tiny pieces. Grind these tiny pieces and add some sugar and salt and make a fine paste. Mix 3 table spoons of this paste into a glass of water and drink it at least once a day. You can add cardamom powder in the juice to add some flavor.
