Diabetes mellitus, commonly known Diabetes is a lifelong condition in which the blood sugar level of a person becomes too high. In diabetes, our pancreas do not produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels. So because of this our body cells do not absorb glucose through our food. This causes the sugars to develop in the blood giving you Diabetes. If left untreated these high blood sugar level can cause serious health issues.

Types Of Diabetes

There are three basic types of diabetes.

  • Type 1 DM
  • Type 2 DM
  • Gestational Diabetes

Type 1 DM

In Type 1, pancreas fail to produce enough insulin. This causes glucose to quickly rise in the blood increasing blood sugar levels. Nobody knows exactly why this happens as there have been enough reasearch done on this without any conclusion But science tells us it’s got nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. About 10 per cent of people with diabetes have Type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 DM

In Type 2 diabetes, the insulin that the body makes doesn’t work properly, because of which glucose builds up in the blood. This type of diabetes is caused by a complex of both genetic and environmental factors. About 90% of the people have Type 2 diabetes. This type of diabetes is curable. Research has showed that up to 58 per cent of Type 2 diabetes cases can be delayed or prevented through a healthy lifestyle.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes happens when the blood sugar level rises during pregnancy. But it usually disappears after giving birth. There is no specific time for gestational diabetes to start. It can occur at any stage of pregnancy, but is more common in the second trimester of pregnancy. The reason is the insufficient production of insulin by your body. Gestational diabetes should not be left untreated as it can cause problems for you and your baby during and after birth. But the risk of these problems happening can be reduced if they are detected on time and properly treated.

Especially if you have a family history of diabetes, you should be more cautious and do your best to prevent getting diabetes as much as you can. Here are a few easy and effective home remedies to maintain your blood sugar levels and lead a healthy and a tension-free life.


1. Fenugreek Seeds

It also improves glucose tolerance and lower blood sugar levels. And stimulates the secretion of glucose-dependent insulin. As it is high in fiber, it slows down the absorption of carbohydrates and sugars.

Here is what you need to do

  • Soak three tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. The next morning drink the water along with the seeds but on an empty stomach. Do this remedy for a few months to bring your blood glucose level down.
  • The other thing you can do is eat powdered fenugreek seeds with milk everyday in the morning.
  • Or you can take fenugreek supplements everyday after your meal. You can do this by making fenugreek tea and having it after your meal.


2. Mango Leaves

  • Soak 15 mango leaves in one glass of water overnight. In the morning, strain the water and drink on an empty stomach.
  • Second option is dry some mango leaves in sunlight and make a powder out of it. Eat one teaspoon of this powder daily on an empty stomach. This will maintain your sugar level and keep you free from diabetes forever.


3. Cinnamon Powder

  • Mix a teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup lukewarm water every morning and drink it.
  • Or take some cinnamon sticks and boil them in some water. Let them sit for 20 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it daily. Adding cinnamon sticks in your daily also helps lowering blood sugar levels.
