The symptoms of Eczema may vary from person to person. In adults, usually in the beginning the skin is red and itchy and the rashes mostly occur on the areas where the skin flexes. For instance, the areas inside the elbows, front of neck or behind the knees. The rash can also leak fluid when scratched. You should never scratch the rash as the skin may get broken or cracked and cause more discomfort. Also infections can settle in very easily in a broken skin.

In Babies

In young children or babies, eczema is determined by patches of dry, scaly skin which can appear at any part of the body. As children have greater healing ability, the skin rash heals very quickly and the flakes are all cleared away whereas in adults it can last longer.

The causes of Atopic Dermatitis/Eczema can vary from person to person. Some of the major factors include hypersensitivity to detergents, soaps, disinfectants, metals such as cement, nickel, some fragrances or perfumes, cosmetics, and some plants such as mustard, clematis. This type of eczema usually runs in the families and is most of the time associated with asthma, stress or different allergies.

My daughter, when she was a baby, used to have eczema a lot. All I would do was… PANIC! which gave me nothing but more stress. I used to wait for several hours in emergency and she would not stop crying in pain. The only thing I was suggested to do was to apply the corticosteroids on her rash. But I was always too afraid of applying such a harsh ointment onto her delicate skin. So that is when I found these herbal remedies to treat her eczema and believe me they made my life much MUCH easier.

  • Coconut Oil

coconut oil for eczemaThis is my favorite and most effective remedy for eczema. Coconut oil is widely used for different diseases related to skin, mouth or hair. All you need to do is apply a good thick layer of coconut oil onto the affected area. Repeat applying coconut oil throughout the day as it gets absorbed into the skin very quickly. The more you apply it, the quicker the rash will heal.

  • Oatmeal Bath

oatmeal bath for dermatitisThe second thing I will recommend for eczema is to take an oatmeal bath. You just have to take a cloth, any cotton cloth will do the work. Take one cup of oatmeal and fill the cloth with it. Tie the ends of the cloth in such a manner that it forms a bundle and the oats are well-intact. Put this little bundle in the bath tub and start filling the tub with lukewarm water. The water will be milky and smooth. Soak in there for about 15 mins. Come out and pat dry with a soft towel.  Apply a good moisturizer afterwards.

  • Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera to treat Eczema Aloe Vera is well-famous for its anti-inflammatory properties. It provides a nice cooling sensation to the itchy skin. If you have an Aloe plant, you can make the gel yourself. Or else you can also buy a ready made Aloe gel from any store. Just apply the gel onto the affected area. This will reduce the inflammation and will give you relief from eczema.
