What is a Colon?

The colon is the final portion of the tube which extends from the mouth to anus. Most of the intestines are located inside a cavity in the abdomen named the peritoneal cavity. Colon parts are able to move freely within the cavity as the undigested food passes through it. The end portion of the large intestine is the rectum which resides in the retroperitoneum. The rectum is a part which is fixed, unlike colon. Bowel cancer is another term used to denote the colon cancer.
